MENANTI PASTI @ APM AND AIM...!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reading and hearing about Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) 2008, which after 5 years of being hosted in our neighbouring country, Singapore, will now be hosted at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre this Sunday, 20th of April 2008. APM’s participation sees artistes from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore vying for top honours within the music industry, and breaking into territories otherwise unfamiliar to them.

On top of that, the renowned and much awaited Anugerah Industri Muzik 15 (AIM 15) will take place on the 5th of May, 2008, in PWTC. Anugerah Industri Muzik has been acknowledged as the leading music awards event, that encompasses both credibility, as well as, reflecting the voices of the masses.

Amongst the many awards that would be given out during those events, we are focusing most on the Best Song Category, which is clearly dominated by Indonesian acts at APM, and talented local artistes for AIM. Nonetheless, our sole representative for this category at APM is none other than Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin, representing Malaysia with the song “Menanti Pasti”, taken from the “Kayangan The Soundtrack” album, a force to be reckon with indeed. ‘Menanti Pasti’ will also compete for Best Song honours at AIM 15!

Menanti Pasti’s lyrics were penned by renowned journalist, Abie Abdullah, mixing his love for literature with tremendous vocabulary skills. Ajai then lent his magical talent and expertise to infuse the lyrics with a melody unlike any other. Who would have thought that a Malay song could be composed based on the waltz genre!

Many have undivided faith in Menanti Pasti, and have a full faith in Datuk Siti Nurhaliza to sway the votes her way to win the Best Song Category at the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2008 and Anugerah Industri Muzik 15.

Overall, Kayangan The Soundtrack parlays an eclectic mix of musical genres, ranging from pop to rock, waltz to hip hop. Truly a joy to listen to, Kayangan The Soundtrack features 11 songs performed by popular and chart-topping artistes such as Ajai, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Ning Baizura, Siti Sarah, Farah, Zahid, and many others.

The theme song “Kayangan”, available in two versions, rock and orchestral, features Ajai in a duet with Y.M. Tunku Dato’ Seri Mimi Wahida Wahman in her recording debut. The lyrics beautifully portray love between two people of different backgrounds, touching on adversities and obstacles faced due to social influences, reflecting the main plot of the film, “Kayangan”.

Datuk Siti Nurhaliza lends her powerful vocals to the waltz influenced “Menanti Pasti”, departing from her usual repertoire of pop-laced ballads. “Menanti Pasti” tells a story of everlasting love and devotion, a concept that escapes most people. Siti Sarah showcases her versatility in the song “Cara Yang Berbeza”, a song about hope and aspirations in love, whilst Ning Baizura entertains us brilliantly with her soulful song “Ungkapan Terindah”, a legacy penned by Allahyarham Loloq, which tells of undying love and fate.

The effervescent Farah of AF rocks on with “Gembira Hidup Ini”, a song of freedom and zest for life, and “Perlukah”, featuring Zahid of AF and Shazzy displays a remarkable and entertaining collaboration of R&B and hip-hop. Syed Azmir, an aspiring singer hailing from Singapore, struts his stuff in the song “Kuasa Cinta”, a song about breaking free from the reins of choking love. Last but not least, the chart-topping band Sad Angry Babies contributes two songs to the soundtrack, titled “Sabarlah” and “Terakhir”. - Adit Rahim
